There are literally thousands of acronyms, terms, technologies or just strange words used by computer boffins out there and face it, it's hard to keep up. For this reason and the fact that we don't want to hide anything from our users we have decided to compile and put together a simple glossary of terms.
| Domain | A domain name is a meaningful and easy to remember name for an Internet address. |
| Dynamic website | A dynamic website has changing information or interacts with the user in some way. This may either be on the server (server side) or on the local machine. The user requests something (information for example) which is generated automatically on the server, usually from a database lookup, and then downloaded to the local computer in some way personalized to the user. |
| E-mail | Electronic mail - Need I say more! |
| Hosting | Hosting is the housing, serving, and maintaining of files for one or more Web sites. Housing relates to the computer space where the website resides and serving relates to a fast, permanent connection to the internet. |
| HTTP | Hypertext Transfer Protocol - provides a standard for computers to communicate. It is a set of rules (protocol) for transferring information on the world wide web. |
| PHP | The PHP Hypertext Preprocessor allows web developers to create dynamic content that interacts with databases. PHP is a server-side, HTML embedded, open source, cross-platform scripting language. |
| POP3 | Post Office Protocol - is a data format for delivering emails across the Internet. |
| Static website | A static websites content is not expected to change frequently. It is manually maintained by someone. |
| WWW | World Wide Web - The Web is part of the Internet consisting of millions of pages linked to each other around the world. |
